Abstract

725,839. Grinding- machines. ALLEN, J. J. C. Feb. 24, 1954 [March 4, 1953], No. 5977/53. Class 59. [Also in Group VI] A grinding-machine for vegetable materials, e.g. household garbage, kitchen and garden waste, waste paper, comprises a container 22 having a top feed opening and a bottom discharge opening, a vertical shaft 31 journalled in top and bottom bearings supported by the container, a plurality of circumferentially-spaced knives on the shaft 31, and a closure member for the discharge opening. The knives 37 to 42 are arranged in diametrically-opposed pairs on the shaft 31, the knives 37, 38 sloping upwardly, the knives 39, 40 being arranged horizontally, and the knives 41, 42 sloping downwardly. The pairs of knives may be feathered at varying angles. The closure member 55 for the discharge opening is hinged at 58 and operable by a control rod 59 clamped in any desired portion by a locking pin 60. When the closure member is left open, the material is forcibly ejected by the knives. The shaft 31 is driven from an electric motor 44 by means of a belt and pulleys, or from the power take-off of a tractor, or from other means. A water inlet is provided at the top of the container. The machine may be fixed or, as shown, portable.
