Abstract
656,646. Radiators for gas fires. DAND, E. B. March 25, 1948, No. 8719. [Class 126] A radiator for a gas fire comprises a flat chamber having extended front and back surfaces and divided into compartments extending from front to back cf the chamber, the hot gases being guided through the chamber by a baffle or baffles at least part of which is vertical and which are normal to the front and back surfaces of the chamber. A box-shaped heat radiator 1 comprises two parallel extended metal surfaces 5, 6, the rear surface 6 being integral with narrow strips 7 which join it to the front surface 5. An aperture 3 having a flanged component 15 is provided in the front extended surface 5 for the entry of combustion gases from the fire. A shallow box-like metal member 2 is placed between the two extended surfaces 5, 6 three sides 10 forming a U-shaped baffle dividing the heat radiator 1 into two compartments. Combustion gases entering the heat radiator 1 rise above the baffle 2 and then fall to an opening which is in the extended surface 6 and on the opposite side of the U-shaped baffle 2 to the opening 3. Gases reach the chimney from the opening by. way of a double bend flue 4. More than one baffle may be provided and the opening in the surface 6 may be arranged above the level of the opening 3 in the surface 5. In a modification the baffle 2 may be inverted and the openings arranged near the top of the appliance.
