Abstract

656,579. Stoppers. GOODBURN ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and GOODBURN, G. W. April 14, 1949, No. 20872/48. [Class 125 (iii)] A stopper of resiliently deformable material has an integrally formed sealing member which presses against the bottle neck when the stopper is screwed thereon. The stopper may be externally threaded at 12, the skirt portion 16 protecting the exterior of the bottle-neck; a recess 18 in the stopper head 13 renders it more deformable, the tapered sealing member 15 being compressed against the bottle-neck. When the stopper is internally threaded at 23, Fig. 3, the tapered plug portion 25 acts as a sealing member. The exterior of the skirt 22, 26 is provided with projections to improve the grip. The stopper may be of polythene or of plastic materials coloured to indicate the nature of the contents. The recess 18 may be of non-circular shape to receive a key for turning the stopper.
