656,095. Poles. GLASS, G., and HARPER, B. I. July 22, 1948. No. 19587. [Class 20(i)] [Also in Group I ] A tubular metal pole for carrying telegraph &c. wires is formed from two channel bars 7, Figs. 1, 4, welded together at their abutting longitudinal edges and is provided with a detachable extension 8 for supporting the cross-arm 9 carrying the insulators. the lower end of the pole having a supporting base 13a, 13b, providing a socket 13 for receiving the end of the pole. The extension 8 is held in position on the main part of the pole by an apertured angle piece 10 welded to the extension and by a bolt 12 and is centred within the main part by webs 7a. Instead of plates 13b welded to each other and to a base plate 13a, the base may be formed as an integral casting. A bolt 14 secures the pole within the socket. According to the Provisional Specification the pole may be formed by welding together a plurality of bars of such cross section as to provide a tubular pole of circular, hexagonal or polygonal cross section, e.g. it may comprise two bars of angle-section or of semi-circular cross. section.
