Abstract

586,007. Poles, masts, &c. MAcGREGOR, A. S. May 2, 1944, No. 8246. Convention date, April 8, 1943. [Class 20 (i)] A tubular pole, mast &c., e.g., for the suspension of telegraph and telephone wires, power lines, radio aerials or for the mounting of lamps &c. comprises a number of interfitting tubular sections each tapering from base to top and each having a crosssectional shape consisting of semicircular or curved ends with flat connecting side faces. The sections may be nested for storage or transport. The sections may be formed by pressing metal sheets to channel form, Fig. 3, with flat base 3 and curved edges 2, the sheets being welded at their meeting edges 4 to complete the section. Strengthening ribs may be pressed in the sheets constituting the sections, as indicated by dotted lines, Fig. 2 and apertures 5 may also be formed therein for inspection of the interior and for ventilation &c. to prevent corrosion. The sections may be assembled by simple interfitting or bolts may also be used to secure the sections together. Bolt holes 6 are provided in the sections for the attachment of cross arms each consisting of a pair of interfitting sections formed similarly to the sections 1. The base section may be sunk in the ground, earth being rammed within and around the section. The pole may taper inwardly from base to top, or outwardly from base to a fraction of the height, the remainder tapering inwardly, the two parts having flanges at their meeting faces of maximum area, and being there bolted together. Guys may be fitted. Specifications 15701/02, [Class 36], 213,953. [Class 20 (i)], 426,074 and 431,829 are referred to.
