Abstract
572,646. Posts. FINER, H. J. June 12, 1943, No. 5335. [Class 20 (i)] A tubular metallic standard, pole, mast, &c. is built of trough-like sections 1-4, Fig. 1, joined end to end to form a longitudinal troughlike member which is closed to form a tube by a series of plates or trough-like sections 1a-4a similarly joined end to end, the transverse joints 9-11 in the trough-like member and 12-14 in the closure member being staggered. The tubular post may be of circular, fluted, hexagonal or other cross-section, and may be tapered along its length. The joints are made by welding. One or more arms 15, Fig. 2, may be fitted, the arms being formed in halves each comprising a semi-sleeve portion 20, Fig. 3, to engage the mast, and a semi-arm portion 19, integral with the sleeve portion or connected thereto, e.g., by a plate. The arms may extend at any angle to the mast and may carry electric lamps 28 whose cables pass through the arms and mast, an aperture 27 below ground level being provided for ingress of the cables, and a door 26 for inspection &c. The sleeve may be spaced from the mast to allow passage for drainage and holes may be provided as necessary in the arms and mast for drainage. The mast may be provided with a top cap 29 and this may be formed integral with the sleeve.
