611,907. Lattice masts for supporting cables; reinforced concrete. MOTORCOLUMBUS SOC. ANON. D'ENTERPRISES ELECTRIQUES. Jan. 10. 1945, No. 864. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1943. [Classes 20(i) and 20(iv)] A reinforced concrete lattice support for electric overhead transmission lines comprises a plurality of long straight posts or main elements a and long straight diagonals b rigidly secured to and connecting said posts, the elements a and b comprising metal tubes filled with concrete. In the form shown, the elements c, d of the line-supporting cross-arms are of similar form, the tubes being filled before or after erection. The corner posts a may be formed in sections (Fig. 2), the upper section h having guide rings i, k for inserting. it in the lower section g, and a liquid binder j, which may be molten zinc for galvanized tubes, is poured in through a hole m. The post sections can alternatively be joined by means of flanges, sleeves, screwing, riveting or welding. The diagonal. tubes may have flattened ends which are bolted to lugs t, Fig. 4, welded on a sleeve s surounding a corner post, or the tubes may be directy riveted or welded to the post sections or fixed to special connections v of a post element u, Fig. 8, in which cases the whole structure can be filled with concrete in one operation. The concrete may be shaken into the tubes, and pressed in order to pre-stress the metal. Iron reinforcements may be inserted in the concrete, and a continuous hollow space may be formed e.g. to receive a cable, by meansof a stretched rubber cord which is removed after the concrete has set. The posts may be cylindrical, tapered or stepped. The tubes may be of iron or steel which is protected against corrosion, and their cross-section may be circular, rectangular, elliptical or pear-shaped.
