Abstract

655,654. Hack saws. RAPERPORT, E. Dec. 31, 1948, Nos. 33655/48 and 6531/49. [Class 145 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A hack saw is mounted on a shallow base having a raised periphery, together with a power unit, preferably an electric motor, so as to form a portable unit requiring no holding or fixing means. A switch is fitted to the saw so that the motor is automatically stopped after the cut has taken place. Guide bar 26 carries saw frame 22 and is supported in a fully raised position by a spring-loaded support 27 engaging pin 29. The saw is powered by an electric motor 5 working through belt-pulleys and reduction gearing, the pulleys being at the opposite side of the saw base to the saw frame. A pump 53 is driven by an eccentric 59 and pumps coolant from the hollow base through pipe 64 onto the saw blade. The saw has a switch (see Group XXXVII), with a push button member 34 which stops the motor when the saw blade cuts through the work, allowing the bar 26 to fall, and the switch is locked in an "off" position until the sawframe is raised.
