Abstract

655,503. Storing gases under pressure. KIDDE CO., Ltd., W., and SPIDY, A. R. July 8, 1948, No. 18428. [Class 8(ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A gas releasing apparatus comprises a housing 2 in which is resiliently and slidably mounted a normally sealed compressed gas container 1, means, e.g. jaws 7 pivoted at a bolt 8 normally restraining the container from movement towards a seal breaking member, e.g. a pin 10, and manually operable means, e.g. a collar 11a of a retractible sleeve 11 whereby the container is permitted to be displaced by a spring 5 and pierced by the pin 10. The open end of the jaws have semi-cylindrical members 7c, Fig. 3, which when closed are embraced by the collar 11a. Gas discharge through a port 13 is effected by removing a hood 15 secured to the sleeve 11 by a cord 14. In a modification the sleeve 11 is withdrawn directly by a cable and the gas escapes forwardly through a flexible hose.
