Abstract

878,698. Injectors. KIDDE CO. Ltd., WALTER. March 16, 1960 [March 18, 1959; Oct. 22, 1959], Nos. 9356/59 and 35795/59. Class 71. An aspirating device for use in assisting the inflation of large inflatable bags or dinghies comprising a moulded plastic body of hollow rectangular section lying inside and parallel to a wall of the inflation bag but having its entry sections twisted through a right angle where it is clamped to the said wall by the flange 3, gasket 8, ring 5 and screws 6 held to the flange 3 by the inserts 2. The rubber flap valve 7 forms the gasket 8 and is normally held just closed against the ambient atmospheric pressure by a weak leaf spring 10. Sets of compressed gas from a storage container enter the body 1 by way of the hollow bolt 20, tube 21 and the twin nozzles 23, the low pressure created by the diffused jets moving through the Venturi shaped body 1 opening the flap valve 7 and drawing in further air, the pressure thus created at the outlet of the body 1 opening the hinged flap valve 12 against the action of the spring 18. As the inflation bag fills and the pressure in the storage cylinder falls off, the valve 12 closes, the pressure in the body 1 rises, closing the flap valve 7 and reopening the valve 12 whence the inflation bag is topped up to just above atmospheric pressure by the residual gas in the storage cylinder ; at this point the valve 12 finally closes. In a modification the valve 12 may be more positively operated by a compressed gas, spring opposed, piston in cylinder, operating the valve 12 through levers, the spring 18 being retained.
