636,093. Accumulators. DEHN, S. G. (Lou-Son Development Co., Inc.). Jan. 19, 1948, No. 1604. [Class 69(ii)] A surge, damper for hydraulic systems comprises a housing 1 and a cartridge 8 insertable in the housing, the cartridge containing a cage 22 and a resilient bag 12 inflated to press against the interior of the cage. The housing 1, which has a closing cap 2 screwed to one end, embodies a liquid inlet 5 and a pressure gauge connection 6 that can be removed to accommodate the inlet of another accumulator unit. Several such units may be connected in series if the pressure in the system is too high for one unit. The cartridge assembly 8 is removably centred within housing 1 by means of'pins 10 and 11 extending from the ends of a core 9, nuts 16 and 17, the latter with a sealing gasket 23, being used to retain the cage 22 on the core 9. The cage 22, which consists of two end bells 18 and 19 and a cylinder 20 with perforations 15, retains the rubber or plastic bag 12 between itself and the core 9, the bag being shown in the position it assumes after inflation by the introduction of air or gas through a valve 13 and ports 14 in the core 9. Pressure liquid entering the inlet 5 passes through the perforations 15 and presses against the bag. The bag is inflated before the cage assembly is fitted into the housing 1.
