Abstract
654,824. Stretcher supports. RIEMVIS, W. F. Dec. 15, 1948, No. 32463. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1947. [Class 103(iv)] A stretcher support comprises two spaced parallel channel-sectioned upper members 3, 4, supported by means of leaf springs 5 from lower members 1, 2, respectively, and is adapted to support a stretcher having legs located in the channel ways. Arms 7 pivotally connected together and to the upper and lower members respectively, and helical springs 8 at the positions of pivotal connections of the arms 7, are provided for the lateral springing of the members 3, 4. The lower members 1, 2, are transversely interconnected by toggle links 9, 10 and 11, 12, the outer ends of the toggles being hinged to the lower members at 19, 20, the inner ends being pivoted at 13, 14. In Fig. 2, the lower members are not as fully extended as in Fig. 1 (not shown), so that a stretcher of different width may be accommodated. The toggle levers may be clamped in adjusted position by screws 19, 20 and the pivot pins 13, 14 may also serve as clamping screws. In order to prevent the lower members from shifting longitudinally with respect to one another during adjustment, the members may be transversely interconnected midway of their lengths by means of a bridge member rigidly secured at one end to the member 1 whilst the other end is connected to member 2 by a pin and slot connection. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification which uses instead of the toggles a pair of diagonal braces pivotally connected to each other midway of their lengths at the crossing position, and at their ends, which are longitudinally slotted and pivotally connected' to the lower members of the support. By means of screws and wing nuts in the crossing position and in the four slots the braces may be adjustably fixed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
