A curve forming unit for use as centering or shuttering for use in buildings and other constructional work consists of a first chain formed by links 1 connected end to end by pivot members 2 to flex in a single plane, and a second chain formed by links 5 connected end to end by pivot members 6 to flex in a single plane, the pivot members 2, 6 being interconnected so that the links of the two chains cross each other with the flexing planes of the two chains parallel, whereby alternate pivot members 2, 6 define an edge of the unit, means being provided for securing the links in adjusted angular relationship corresponding to a desired curvature of the edge of the unit. The interconnecting means between the pivot members 2, 6 may consist of struts 8 interposed between opposed pivot members 2, 6, the pivot members being received by circular apertures at the ends of the struts 8 along the edge of the unit and by longitudinal slots at the other ends of the struts 8. The pivot members may consist of bolts which are provided with clamping nuts 3, 7, to secure the links in adjusted position. Support members 9 which have bolt holes 10 enabling shuttering to be secured to the curve forming unit may be provided, which link together the adjacent pivot members 2, 6 along the edge of the unit, and when the members 9 are provided, the struts 8 may optionally be dispensed with. The two ends of the curve forming unit are each provided with an end member 9a secured to the strut 8. In a modification, Fig. 3, the links 11 and 13 respectively of the two chains are connected end to end by pivot members 12, 14 respectively, which are interconnected by struts 15 in the form of rods. The pivot members 12, 14 are formed with sleeves which at the ends of the rods 15 along the edge of the unit are fixed to the rods 15 and which at the other ends of the rods 15 are slidably carried between nuts 16 which may be adjustably screwed along the rods, whereby the links 11 and 13 are secured in adjusted angular relationship corresponding to a desired curvature along the edge of the unit. Support members 17 along the edge of the unit are hingedly connected by pins 18 and are fixed perpendicularly to the ends of the rods 15. The ends of the unit have end plates 17a hinged to the end plates 17 and having a lug 19 movable therealong which is pivotally connected to the terminal pivot member of the unit.. Both of the pivot members 12, 14 on each strut 15 may be movable and may be furnished with set screws by which they are clamped in adjusted position along the length of the struts.
