Abstract

[Class 132 (iii)] [See also Group X] A coupling unit for the structural sections of light structures, including toys and the like, comprises a sleeve having one or more laterally extending wings, the sleeve consisting of hinged or pivoted jaw parts of which at least one is formed integral with a wing or with a component part of a wing. The units are mounted on the structural sections by means of the sleeves and are interconnected by bolts or the like passing through the wings. In one construction, Fig. 1, the unit comprises three wings 10, 11, 12, of which the wings 10, 11 are bent from a single piece of sheet metal. The intermediate wing 12 consists of two plates 14, 15, which are hingedly mounted on the wings 10, 11 respectively and which are normally bolted together by bolts 19. The sleeve of the unit is constituted by a channel 13 between the wings 10, 11, and by curved portions 16 of the plates 14, 15. In a modification, the unit comprises two wings 26, Fig. 4, hinged together at 27 and provided with curved portions 25 which together form the sleeve. The clamping of the unit to a structural section is effected by bolts 29. Other modifications of multi-wing units are also described. The unit may have one wing only and in the construction shown in Fig. 1 this wing 36 is formed of two plates which have curved portions 40 forming the sleeve and which are hinged together. The plates of the wing are held together by bolts. In a modification, Fig. 10, a subsidiary coupling is mounted on one of the plates 53 of the wing. This coupling consists of two channelled straps 54 having oppositely directed lugs 56 which pass through a rectangular slot 57 in the plate. The straps are clamped to a structural element by a bolt 55. Other modifications of singlewing units are also described. Specification 409,318, [Group X], is referred to.
