Abstract
764,278. Screens. GLATZ, A. Feb. 2, 1955 [Feb. 3, 1954; Jan. 3, 1955], No: 3115/55. Classes 20(1) and 20(3) A collapsible screen for attachment, e.g. to a balcony railing to screen the sun, comprises a supporting rod A which has arms 1, 2 of tensioning rods B, C hinged to members 3, 4 secured to its ends, and a screen D connected between the rods B, C. The members 1, 2 of the rods B, C are connected by stays 5, 6 to sleeves 7, 8 which are slidable on the rod A for co-operation with spring loaded catch members 9, 10 to maintain the screen D evenly stretched in the open position. The. catch members 9, 10 may be depressed into the supporting rod A to permit sliding movement of the sleeves 7, 8 and the folding of the blind, as the arins 1, 2 pivot about the members 3, 4, to a position substantially parallel to the supporting rod A. In a modification the rods B, C are each made of a single length which is removably engaged upon a support arm projecting from the respeetive end of the supporting rod A and has a unitary bending stay hingedly connected to it at either side. The bending stays may flex in the same direction as the members B, C or in the opposite direction. If desired, the screen can be reversed after removal from the supporting rod to make use of both sides. Two clamping members are arranged on each tensioning bar to engage the respective support arm and prevent the bar from moving axially. The lower supporting arm may be in the form of an adjustable ring 19, Fig. 9, provided with a tooth 19b to engage in one of a plurality of holes 20 in the lower end of the rod A. In an alternative arrangement the supporting arms are formed having one lug to engage in one of a number of openings in the respective end of the rod A and another lug which serves as a handle. The screen may be attached to a pivoted arm linkage to provide for varied positioning. One such arrangement, Fig. 14, comprises an arm E which has a clamp 23 at its outer end to receive an end of the support rod A and is adjustably pivoted at 29 to another arm F. which is angularly and axially adjustable in a tube G having clamps 33, for securing it to a rail of a balcony H.
