Abstract

654,794. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Oct. 12, 1948, No. 26563. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Class 74 (ii)] In the knitting of a stocking welt on a multifeed circular machine, an initial course 7 is formed on alternate needles, a second course 8 of the same yarn is formed on all needles, a third course 9 is formed on alternate needles and interspersed transfer bits ; a course 10 is formed on the alternate needles and subsequent courses 10-14 are knitted on all needles, the same yarn being used throughout. The rest of the welt is knitted with all feeds to course 16 when the loops on the transfer bits, while knitting is still in progress, are transferred to the alternate needles. Knitting of the stocking is then continued. Specifications 582,994, 583,018 and 583,019, are referred to.
