[Class 100 (i)] An intermittently fed web is longitudinally registered by limiting the movement of the feed member by a movable stop locked in the required position by a web-controlled electromagnetic wedging device. As applied to the paper feed device described in Specification 648,366, the cross bar spanning the clamps 41 shown in Fig. 2 thereof carries a resilient finger which penetrates spaced slots in the paper web to contact a plate beneath the web thereby energizing a solenoid ; the reciprocating carriage front stops (24 in the above Figure), are replaced by a pivoted lever 40, Fig. 5, or a slidable bar 68, Fig. 6, moved forward by the carriage against a spring 44, 75 until locked by a ramped slide bar 47 or a roller 72 connected to the core of the solenoid ; in Fig. 5, the bar 47 moves transversely between the forward end 43 of the lever 40 and a fixed shoulder 48 ; in Fig. 6 the roller 72 moves between the bar 68 and an inclined wall 70 to press the bar 68 against a wall 69. The rearward movement of the parts 40, 68 is limited by a pin 45 fixed in the base 39, 65 which is secured to the front cross bar of the carriage track frame. A delayed-action circuit breaker may be included in the solenoid circuit to prevent overheating. According to the first Provisional Specification the part 43 is modified to coact with a ramped slide bar 47 arranged front-rear ; according to the second Provisional Specification the core of the solenoid 56, Fig. 6, may push the roller 72 instead of pulling it into locking position ; according to both Provisional Specifications the securing bolts of the bases 39, 65 may pass through slots therein.
