Abstract

Class 100(2) In a rotary duplicating machine as claimed in Claim 1 of the parent Specification, by forward movement of a control lever through gating means a driving motor is switched on the moistening mechanism, the inking mechanism, and a counter pressure roller are brought step by step into their respective operating positions and a paper feeding mechanism is started. The lever 92, Figs. 1 and 5, is mounted on a stud 54 and is movable in a slotted quadrant 42, being urged against an abutment 43 by springs 118, 119. When the lever is manually moved to a gate 44, a switch 93 is closed to start a motor driving the printing drum 1, Figs. 1 and 6. Through a system of levers and cams shown in Fig. I, when the lever 92 is moved to a gate 45, a damping roller 17 is moved against a friction roller 18, and ink transfer rollers 2 and 3 and an inking roller 5 are moved against a friction roller 4. When the lever is moved to a gate 46, which is provided by a retractable bolt 127, the roller 17 is moved against the drum I, while still contacting the roller 18. When the lever is moved to a gate 47, the rollers 2 and 3 are moved against the drum 1, while still contacting the roller 4. When the roller is moved against an abutment 48, a counter pressure roller 99 is moved against the drum 1, and is locked in such operative position by an armature 70 of an electromagnet 70a engaging a surface 69 of a control plate 68. The movement of the roller 99 also acts through a lever connection (not shown) to couple the drum 1 to an eccentric wheel and reciprocate a sheet feeding member 106. The lever 92 is then released by the operator and is brought back by the spring against the bolt 127, the machine continuing to operate normally. When the magnet 70a is energised by means of a paper feed failure detecting means, the plate 68 is released and the roller 99 is moved away from the drum 1 by the spring 119. The movement of the roller 99 causes a contact 120 to close for a short time, to energise a magnet 123 and withdraw the bolt 127 long enough to allow the lever 92 to be retracted to the gate 45, thereby withdrawing the rollers 2, 3 and 17 from the drum.
