Abstract
601,334. Copying documents. BLOCK & ANDERSON, Ltd., and GERLACH, H. Oct. 1,1945, No. 25476. [Class 100(ii)] In a rotary mirror script duplicating-machine control means, operable by a single manual operation are provided for simultaneously rendering inoperative the means for moving the damping apparatus out of operative position and the means for holding the cylinder in the copy sheet receiving position, so that the machine can be run continuously to print webs or long sheets. The damping pad 14, Fig. 1 is moved into and out of operative relation with the sheets passing over the plate 13 by means of an arm 19 comprising two parts 28, 29 hinged together by a pin 30, the outer part 28, carrying a roller 25 which may be engaged by a rise 27 on a cam disc 26 fixed to the spindle of the printing cylinder 10. A lever 32 has a projection 34 which, in the position shown in Fig. 1 engages the part of the cam disc 26, so that at the end of each revolution of the cylinder 10, the pad 14 is moved away from the plates 13 against the action of a spring 21. When the lever 32 is moved to the right of Fig. 1 into the position shown in Fig. 5, spring 31 arranged between lugs on the parts 28, 29 of the arm 19 moves the roller 25 clear of the disc 26 so that the pad 14 remains in operative position and the damping is continuous. The lever 32 is formed with a sleeve 47 pivoted on a hollow trunnion 33, housing a spring-pressed plunger 43 adapted to engage a recess 45 in the cam disc 26 to hold the cylinder in the sheet-receiving position. The plunger has a projecting pin 46 engaging a cam slot in the sleeve 47 so arranged that when the lever 32 is moved into the position of continuous damping the plunger 43 is retracted into the position A spring-held lever 37 pivoted on a bracket 23 has two recesses to receive a roller 42 on the lever 32 to hold it in one of its two positions; alternatively, the lever 37 may have two rollers which engage a recess in lever 32.
