Abstract

653,475. Locking screws. BENNETT, D. C. T. Aug. 4, 1948, No. 20572. [Class 89(i)] Bolts or studs are rendered selflocking by splitting them axially over the greater part of the threaded portion and displacing the ends in opposite directions parallel to the plane of the split. The figure shows the direction of displacement for a hight hand screw the section being taken looking away from the head. To facilitate entry the end of the bolt may be chamfered and to increase the resilience the bolt may be heat treated.
