'[Class 51 (i) ] In a combustion chamber in which pulverulent fuel is burned, the fuel delivered by a screw conveyer 16 is entrained at 10 by air which has been heated in passing through a jacket 5 around the combustion chamber. The air and fuel pass through a volute 13 to a chamber 14 and enter the chamber 1 tangentially at its periphery. The fuel burns in the whirling mass of air and the products of combustion emerge through the central opening 8. Other air is led to the chamber tangentially through a conduit 22. Some air with the lighter fuel particles passes from the chamber 14 into a chamber 21 and thence is led to join the air in the e conduit 22. Air from the jacket 5 passes through a volute 7 into a convergent conduit 9 such that the static pressure of the air stream is sub-atmospheric at the entraining point 10. Specifications 338,108.
