[Class 78(i)] [Also in Group XII] In a sulphide ore roasting furnace, means for feeding powdered ore and air to a burner at the top of the furnace chamber comprises two conduits 4 and 5 with a common connection to a source of compressed air, said connection having a distributing valve, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the conduit 4 being supplied with ore from a feeding device 14 and leading to a nozzle in the burner 2 to which additional air is supplied by the conduit 5 through a pressureequalizing box 22. Air preheated in the jacket 11 is supplied by a fan 8 and combustion products after circulating through a heatexchanger 27 may be recirculated tangentially around the burner nozzle 24. A box 16 with a window 21 is provided at the foot of the conduit 4 so that if the fall of powdered ore is observed the speed of the air in said conduits may be adjusted to the minimum required to lift the ore.
