Abstract

653,046. Cutting tools. FLORIAN, B. J., and FLORIAN, R. S. Nov. 29, 1948, No. 30924. Convention date, Sept. 16. [Class 31 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A hand-operated device for cutting sheet material comprises upper and lower levers 11, 10 pivoted together at 12, the forward end of the lever 10 being slotted at 17 to provide upper and lower jaws 15, 16. A cutting disc 22, which may have a crimped margin to cut with a "pinking" effect, is rotatably mounted in the jaw 15 and is driven by a gear segment 19 which meshes with a pinion annulus 20. A number of one-way clutching elements are provided so that the segment, when moved in one direction, will drive the cutting disc in the direction of the arrow b and the material W is fed between the cutting disc and an anvil roll 28 rotatably supported in the lower jaw. A thumb-screw 30 is adjustable so that the surface of the anvil roll is held rigidly in contact with the edge of the cutting disc. A spring-urged wiper 40 is provided to remove dirt from the anvil roll.
