ATTORNEY that is attached to a table by means of a screw and made adjustable thereon by adjusting screws 21, to properly set the bracket and position the operative parts of the trimmer, including the cutter, to insure accurate and effective functioning of the trimming mechanism. This bracket includes an outwardly disposed arm having an off-set extension forming a ,bearing 22 in which is mounted a shaft 23 having a collar 24 upon its outer end.
The before mentioned flexible. shaft 17 is provided with a coupling 25 upon its outer end portion which fits upon and is secured to the end of the shaft 23 to drive the same from the before mentioned driven shaft 14. A cam element 26 is mounted upon this shaft and is provided on opposite sides with annular cam faces 27 and 28. The former serves to operate the clamping jaw 52 and the latter the cutter arm 30 bearing the cutting blade 31.
A pair of suitably shaped guides 32 and 33 properly spaced one with respect to the other are mounted upon the bracket and are positioned in proper relation to the path of movement of the pins of the ring to receive and guide the raw edge of the knit fabric carried upon the pins of the ring, between the clamping jaws preparatory to the cutting operations. The guide 33 includes an outwardly disposed rear end portion 34.- to which an adjustable extension 35 is secured by means of a screw 36. This being the inner guide. see Fig. 1 it not only serves together with the other guide togather in and align the edge of the fabric but by reason of the outwardly projected extensions 34. and 35 it serves to deflect the trimmed off particles of fabric out from the line of travel of the pins and fabric. This inner bracket member further includes a supporting arm 37 which is secured to the bracket 18 by means of screws 38. while the outer guide is provided with an inwardly disposed looped arm 39 that is secured to the before mentioned arm 317 of the co-o iierating guide 33. by m mus of screws 40. il represents a depending jaw member which is formed upon the outer end portion of an arm e2 loosely mounted upon a rocker shaft 43 and susceptible of slight movement limited in one direction by a stop bracket 4-1 against which it is normally held by means of a spring 45, one end of which is secured toa pin 46 of said arm 42 and the other to a finger 47 secured to the frame by means of a screw 48.
The before mentioned rocker shaft 4.3, see
Figs. 5 and 6, is journaled in the arm 18 of the bracket and serves to carry upon its lower endportion an arm 49' which bears a roll 50 that rides upon the annularcam face 27 of the cam element. A second arm 51 is mounted upon the upper end portion of the rocker shaft43'and is provided upon its outer edge portion with a depending jaw member 52 whose lower inturned gripping face aligns with the corresponding grippingface of the before mentioned jaw member 41 so that through the action of the cam the said movable gripping jaw 52 will be opened and closed against the co-acting normally stationary gripping member 4-1 in a way to clamp and hold the fabric therebetween during the cutting operation. vThis movable gripping member is normally held open and its roll arm retained against the cam face by means of a spring 53, one end of which is secured to the said roll arm 49 while the op posite end is attached to a pin of the lever 30 carrying the cutter blade.
A spring clamp 54 is adjustably attached to the side of the movable clamping jaw 52 by means of a screw 55. The inwardly disposed leg 56 of the clamp is arranged substantially parallel with the under face of the movable jaw and in spaced relation thereto. Its end serves to engage and disengage the periphery of the ring simultaneously with the clamping of the jaw so as to also grip the fabric below the line of movement of the knife and impaling pins, in its cutting operations.
The cutter lever 30 is pivotedly mounted upon a stud 57 secured to the bracket 18. The forward end of this arm carries a clamping plate 58 and a screw 59 by means of which the cutting'blade 31 is detachably secured to the forward end portion of the arm. The inwardly disposed leg of this arm carries a roll 60 that rides upon the cam face 28 and is actuated in a way to throw the lever and blade with each rotation of the shaft 23 and in proper timing with operation of the clamping jaw and whereby the latter is operated to gripthe fabric attwo points slightly in advance of the cutting operation and to release the same immediately upon the completion of the said cutting operation.
By means of the foregoing description of the trimmer mechanism comprising my invention it will be noted that the operation of the trimmer is effected through the flexible shaft 17, the double cam and connected jaw and cutter arm operated thereby.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1i In a trimmer, of the class described, a bracket adapted for attachment to a looping machine includin a rin clam in 'aws adapted to be opened and closed to clamp the fabric, a clamping member, said ring and clamping member being positioned in spaced relation to the jaws and adapted to grip and hold the fabric simultaneously with the grip-- ping of it by the clamping jaws, and a knife positioned to cut the fabric betweenthe two said gripping points. I

In a trimmer, a bracket adapted for attachment to a looping machine including a lit) ring carrying impaling pins, guides for directing the fabric through the trimmer, clamping jaws in the path of the movement of the fabric, a yieldable clamp carried by one of the jaws and adapted to co-act with the ring to also clamp the fabric, and a cutter positioned for operation beneath the jaws.

In a trimmer, a bracket adapted for attachment to alooping machine including a rotatable ring carrying a series of fabric supporting pins, a fixed and a movable clamping .j aw located slightly above the surface of the ring for clamping the fabric, a clamping member adj ustably mounted upon the movable clamping jaw and adapted to operate against the peripheral surface of the ring in a manner to clamp fabric therebetween, a cutter positioned to operate between the aws and surface of the ring to shear the fabric 1when held by said jaws and clamping mem- 4. In a trimmer, a bracket adapted for attachment to a looping machine, guides for directing the fabric through the trimmer, clamping jaws in the path of movement of the fabric, a rec-iproc-atory cutter positioned beneath the jaws, and means for operating both the jaws and cutter to hold and cut the fabric, an adjustable clamp attached to one of the jaws and in spaced relation thereto.
5. In a trimmer, a bracket adapted for at- V tachment to a looping machine, guides for directing the fabric through the trimmer, one of the said guides being provided with an outwardly projected adjustable extension on its rear end portion to direct the fabric off of the trimmer, a pair of clamping jaws in the path of movement of the fabric, means yieldably mounting one of said jaws, means for intermittently operating the second jaw to clamp and release the fabric, and a cutter positioned beneath the jaws, and adapted to operate in conjunction with the jaws to cut the fabric when held therein.
