Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to instruments and more particularly pruners and shears for pruning trees and shrubs, root reduction, cutting roses, etc.
Existing secateurs are generally composed of two handles, one of which has a concave support and the other a convex blade. The handles are articulated around an axis and are held open by a spring, which compresses during cutting operations.
With such pruning shears, the cut is made by pressing the blade against and on the rod to be cut, which rod is retained by the concave support. A disadvantage of these secateurs lies in that the blade penetrates only under pressure by a rectilinear movement, causing more or less significant crushing of the rod.
The pruning shears object of the present invention makes it possible to avoid this and drawback by the fact that the cutting is carried out under the pressure of the handles which is associated with a rotary and translative movement of the blade. The simultaneity of its movements gives a clean cut and considerably reduces the effort for the same result.
The pruning shears object of the present invention uses the movement of the two handles relative to each other and preferably by applying a multiplier effect to this movement of small amplitude.
The pruner consists of two arms, one of which, on the cutting side, has a concave support and its substantially middle part is secured to an axis on which the two arms are articulated. The other arm, cut side, is crossed by a small axis which carries on the inside a circular blade and on the outside a pinion. The blade and the pinion are integral with their common axis. The bringing together of the handles advances the pinion on a toothed sector positioned on the articulation axis and integral with the latter. The toothed sector is on the right when the arms are spread apart, so that said toothed sector develops to the left during cutting.
The appended drawings will allow a better understanding of the invention and will illustrate other features together with the text below.
Figure 1 shows a pruning shears, with the support on the right.
Figure 2 partially shows, in elevation, the pruner according to the figure, with the blade to the right.
FIG. 3 partially represents, in elevation, the pruning shears according to the profile indicated by the arrow A carried in FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 represents a variant design of the pruning blade according to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3.
FIG. 5 partially shows, in elevation, a design variant provided with a blade non-return means.
As shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, the pruner has two crossed arms 1 and 2, which respectively have at one end a sheathed handle 3 and 4, and at the other end, the arm 1 carries a blade 5 while the arm 2 is extended by the concave support 6; which arms 1 and 2 are joined and articulated, by their median part, on an axis 7 which is immobilized on the side of the concave support 6 by a nut 8 and which emerges sufficiently on the side of the arm 1 to carry a toothed sector 9 on which engages a pinion 10 positioned on the extension 11 of the arm 1, by an axis 12 which emerges from the other side of the extension 11 to carry the circular blade 5 integral with said axis 12. The middle parts of the arms are separated on the 'axis 7 of articulation by a washer 13 whose thickness is equal to the thickness of the circular blade 5 which is precisely housed between the extension il of the arm 1 and the concave support 6 of the arm 2. During the tightening movement of the handles 3 and 4, the arm 1 pivots on the axis 7 of articulation causing the gear of the pinion 10 on the fixed toothed sector 9, thereby the pinion 10 drives in its rotation the blade 5 which cuts by its rotation and advances under the pressure of the handles, touching the concave support 6.
The circular blade 5 is sharpened over its entire periphery which can be used on half and then changed after wear.
The arm 1 carrying the blade 5 has its middle part provided with a locking latch 14 pivoting on an axis 15, which latch 14 pivots for closing the pruning shears in a housing 16 made in the middle part of the other arm 2.
A spring 17 is placed by its two ends on two pins 18 located inside the handles allowing the spacing to undertake successive cuts.
FIG. 4 represents a circular blade provided with more or less pronounced teeth 19, which will accentuate the effect of the movement of attraction and consequently of shearing. The teeth 19 may have different shapes depending on the objects to be cut.
According to a design variant shown in Figure 5, the pruning shears are provided with a non-return means for the circular blade, allowing uniform wear over the entire periphery of the blade.
The axis 12 has a square section in its left part 20 for rotating the circular blade 5 and a circular part 21 which has years 22 on its lateral periphery in contact with the pinion 10, which also has notches 23 which s 'fit into said notches 22 and are held together by the pressure of a spring 24 which pressure is adjusted by means of a nut 25. The pin 12, beyond the circular part 21, has the right part 26 of round section, which carries the toothed pinion 10 and the pressure spring 24. The circular part 21 rests through the hole, on the extension ll of the arm 1. The notches 23 of the pinion 10 are reversed with respect to the notches 22 of the circular part 21, thus the pinion 10 drives the circular part 21 and the circular blade 5 during the cutting movement, and, upon release, the pinion 10 turns freely backwards on the round part 26 of the axis 12. In its rearward rotation the notches 23 of the pinion 10 disengage from the notches 22 of the circular part 21 not driving the circular blade 5 in this way.
The pruner, object of the present invention, is more particularly intended for garden work such as, pruning, pruning, etc. but this instrument with a rotary blade with movement of attraction is suitable for other tasks by example for cutting thin sheet metal, cutting poultry, etc.
