The present invention relates to a pneumatically actuated secateurs comprising two knives, one movable, the other fixed, forming a chisel, a spring arranged so as to separate the ends of the knives in the rest state, a cylinder-piston assembly. pneumatic connected to a source of compressed air, a device for controlling the admission of air into said cylinder and a connection member connecting the non-cutting end of the movable knife to one end of said piston.
There are already different types of secateurs used, in general, in arboriculture, horticulture, viticulture, forestry, among which the pneumatically actuated secateurs allow relatively thick branches to be cut without physical effort and a quick way. In known secateurs of the above-mentioned type, the stationary knife is mounted directly on the cylinder, the latter serving at the same time as a handle, and the movable knife is actuated by the piston by means of a lever device. This design has a number of drawbacks which are of great practical importance.
In fact, on the one hand, the weight of the known secateurs is distributed in a way which turns out to make the work difficult and tiring, the cylinder handle is bulky and is not adapted to the anatomy of the hand of the operator. 'user. On the other hand, the fixed mounting of the chisel on the cylinder makes changing the knives practically impossible in the field, so that a complete spare tool must be available or a prolonged interruption of work may become necessary. The known construction also does not offer the possibility of modifying the tool to adapt it to different jobs and, for example, to the height at which it is intended to cut.
The present invention proposes to remedy the drawbacks of known secateurs and to provide a particularly practical and easy-to-handle tool, making it possible to work with minimal fatigue, which can be modified in its length between the handle and the knives and comprising an easily interchangeable chisel.
For this purpose, the secateurs according to the invention is characterized in that the non-cutting end of the fixed knife is removably mounted at one end of a handle integral with the cylinder,
The connection member being constituted by a cable detachably attached to the movable knife.
In a preferred embodiment, the handle is arranged in the axial extension of the cylinder and has a recess in which the end of the piston connected to the connection cable moves.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the pneumatically actuated secateurs according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view, schematically, of the secateurs,
fig. 2 is a cross section through the plane A-A of FIG. 1, and
fig. 3 is a section on the plane B-B of FIG. 1.
In fig. 1, we distinguish the main parts of the secateurs, namely the mobile 1 and fixed 2 knives, the handle 3 and the cylinder 4 integral with the handle and arranged in the extension thereof.
The non-cutting end 5 of the fixed knife 2 has for example a cylindrical shape and engages removably in the handle 3 A lateral fixing screw can, if necessary, be provided in the handle 3 to block the end 5. The movable knife 1, articulated on the knife 2, carries at its non-cutting end a device for attaching an actuating cable which will be described later. A spring 6 is arranged so as to separate the ends of the two knives in the rest state. The actuating cable 7, attached at one end to the movable knife 1, passes over a pulley 7 'housed in the fixed knife 2, then, between this pulley and the end fixed to the handle 3, through a slot and a
central bore of this part of the knife 2. The diameter of the
pulley 8 is chosen so that the cable passes through the end 5 of the fixed knife along the axis thereof.
The end of the handle 3 opposite the chisel 1, 2 is integral with the cylinder 4 and comprises a device 8 for controlling the admission of air into said cylinder. Between the two end parts, the handle 3 comprises two elongated flat parts, placed opposite one another, so as to form between them a longitudinal central recess. In the lower part of the handle 3, a lever 9 formed by an elongated strip, curved towards the axis of the handle, is rotatably mounted in the end parts of the latter along an axis parallel to that of the handle. This lever 9 constitutes the actuator of the air intake control device 8, the latter essentially comprising a valve, one end of which is shown in FIG. I in contact with an extension 9 'of lever 9.
The curvature of the upper part 3 'of the handle on the one hand and the curvature of the lever 9 on the other hand, as well as the dimensions of these parts are chosen so as to give the handle a shape well suited to the hand of an user.
The cylinder 4 is screwed onto the end part of the handle 3 and st closed at its opposite end by a cover 11 provided with several conical parts 12 constituting silencers. Inside the cylinder 4, a piston, which is not visible in the drawing, 2 can move axially and is subjected on one side, through the control device of the air intake. 8, to the pressure of compressed air and, on the other hand, to the force of an axially oriented compression spring. The piston of the cylinder 4 carries a coaxial rod 13 which passes through a ventral cover of the end of the handle 3 carrying the cylinder 4 and the end of which moves inside the recess of the handle 3.
The end of the rod 13 is arranged so as to make it possible to removably attach to it one end of the cable 7, for example rn having a slot and a recess allowing the end of the cable to be inserted and to house the end piece. of it in the recess.
The design of the control device 8 connected via a flexible pipe 14 to a source of compressed air, as well as the details of the construction of the cylinder-piston assembly, the return spring and the guide sleeve bearing the rod 13 in the end of the handle 3, are within the skill of the art and are not described here. The silencers 12 are made of a porous material having a multitude of non-linear air exhaust channels.
Fig. 2 shows the shape of the handle in cross section along the plane A-A of FIG. 1. It shows in particular the shape and the arrangement of the lever 9 rotatably mounted about the longitudinal axis 15. By tightening the handle and thus pressing the lever 9, the user actuates the valve of the control device, The end 10 of this valve being pushed inwards by part 9 'of the actuating lever.
Fig. 3 is a section along the plane B-B of the end of the movable knife 1 comprising the device for attaching one end of the cable. This device consists of a cylindrical rotating part 16 housed rotatably in the end of the movable knife 1, the latter having a wide slot to allow the introduction of the end of the cable with its tip. The cylindrical part 16 has in its middle a transverse slot of flared shape allowing the introduction of the cable and its end. The latter is placed at least partially in the flared part of the slot and is thus retained in the direction of traction of the cable. Opposite the slot, a retaining screw 17 is screwed transversely into the end of the knife 1, so as to prevent the cable and its tip from coming out of their housing when the tension of the cable is released.
To remove the end of the cable, it is therefore necessary to unscrew screw 17 and remove the cable through the slot in part 16. This fastening device allows rotation of the end of the cable in the median plane of the cable. secateurs and thus avoids a bending force at the point of attachment of the cable.
When the user presses the lever 9, he actuates the control device 8, the latter then admitting compressed air into the left part of the cylinder of FIG. 1, so that the piston and the rod 13 are pushed to the right against the action of the return spring arranged to the right of the piston inside the cylinder 4. The rod 13 drives the cable 7 which exerts a traction on the piston. the non-cutting end of the movable knife 1 and closes the chisel 1, 2 against the action of the spring 6.
When the lever 9 is released, the cylinder piston 4 returns to its rest position under the effect of the return spring and the spring 6 opens the chisel I, 2 again.
In the present pneumatically operated secateurs, the chisel constitutes an independent unit, easily removable and easily interchangeable during use.
On the other hand, the arrangement of the handle between the chisel and the cylinder leads to a balanced distribution of the weight of the tool relative to the user's hand and allows to obtain a tool that is easy to handle and avoids any fatigue. unnecessary. The described configuration of the handle and in particular of the actuating lever also contributes to the maneuverability and ease of use of the present tool.
To adapt the secateurs described to the work at different heights, it suffices to insert between the end of the fixed knife and the handle one or more extension tubes and to use a cable of suitable length. With the present secateurs, this adaptation can be done in the field as easily as the exchange of a worn or damaged chisel.
