652,439. Preparation of paper pulp. MORDEN, C. W. May 3, 1948, No. 12106. Convention date, June 19, 1947. [Class 96] [Also in Group II] A machine for slushing, shredding, and refining paper pulp or waste paper &c. has a tank 10 supported by a base-ring 11., part of the tank wall being flattened to receive a fixed disc-ring 30 coacting with a rotating disc 24 driven by a pulley 23 and adjusted axially by a hand wheel 22. The annular coacting faces of the disc mill are grooved, one radially and the other at an angle thereto to provide a shearing effect on the fibre, these working parts being extended to form peaked teeth directed towards the centre, one of the two series of teeth being offset to provide a shredding action on the pulp &c. Pulp leaving the disc mill may pass up a pipe 38 to a delivery pipe 41 or, by turning a valve 39 may be recirculated through a pipe 40 which may be flexible and adjustably-directed. Alternatively a stop-ring 36 may be removed, and the pulp re-circulated directly to the tank 10, batches of pulp being run off at 15, a trap 13 being provided for sediment.
