[Class 40 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube polar co-ordinate oscillograph for indicating phenomena in rotating machinery the outputs of a two-phase generator 1 driven by a rotating part of the machinery are fed through resistance-capacitance filters 3, the outputs of which are substantially independent of generator speed and free from harmonics to balanced amplifiers 6 giving push-pull outputs which are modulated at 7 by a signal derived, e.g. from the machinery shaft and amplified at 8. The modulated outputs are applied respectively to the X and Y- plates of the cathode-ray tube 9, and produce a circular trace radially deflected corresponding to the angular position on the machinery shaft at which a given phenomenon is occurring.
