651,033. Eddy current brakes. SOC. ELECTRO-MECANIQUE DE L'AVEYRON. July 8, 1948, Nos. 18420 and 18421. Convention dates, July 19, 1947 and Dec. 30, 1947. [Class 35] In an eddy current brake, the space on one or both sides of the rotor 1 is divided by a partition 54a into two chambers which are provided near their periphery with openings 54 and 13c, and which are in communication near the rotor, the arrangement being such that the cooling air enters the outer chamber at opening 54, flows radially inwardly cooling one half of the electromagnets 6, is deflected through approximately 180 degrees, flows radially outwardly cooling the rotor and the other half of the electromagnets 6, and leaves the brake casing by the port 13c. The rotor 1 may comprise two plates spaced axially apart so that part of the air may flow between them. The rotor may instead be made solid, as in Fig. 4, with radial passages 62 formed therein.
