Abstract
650,573. Pipe joints. MOTOR-COLUMBUS AKT.-GES. FUR ELEKTRISCHE UNTERNEHMUNGEN. Feb. 20, 1948, No. 5148. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1947. [Class 99(i)] Joints for vertical masts, or the corner posts of latticework masts, comprise telescoped tubular steel parts a, b at least one of which is provided with circumferential grooves p that are so located as to face and be covered by the other part and are filled with solidifying material, such as synthetic resin, zinc, cadmium, gypsum, or asphalt, in the fluid state. The number of grooves provided is such that the strength of the joint formed by the solidified annular bodies c is at least equal to the strength of the parts. There may be an axial filling channel d and a stop ring e to limit insertion of one part into the other. In modifications, (1) the grooves are formed by rolling, (2) the parts have integrally rolled, shrunk or welded on thickened ends, (3) an external sleeve surrounds the butting end of the parts and (4) an intermediate concentric sleeve enables joints between parts of greatly different diameter to be made. The grooves of the parts may be oppositely disposed and of rectangular, circular or oval shape.
