Abstract
650,281. Centrifugal separators. ANDERSEN, A. T. FRIIS-. May 20, 1948, No. 13689. [Class 23] [Also in Group VI] Fruit is pulped and the juice may also be separated by high speed rotated impellers 24 which receive the fruit from an inlet 23 and fling it against the serrated or oppositely directed helical rifled surfaces 26 of a chamber 10 the pulped fruit being delivered through a bottom outlet, Fig. 1, or upper outlets 47, 48, Fig. 3. If the juice is to be separated the chamber 10 has perforations 30, Fig. 2, draining the juice to an outlet 31 in an outer casing 29. Oxidation of the fruit is prevented by supplying saturated steam or an inert gas at 27 and allowing it to escape at 28. In Fig. 3 the fruit in a shoot 45 falls to an inlet 46 from which impellers 34, 44 fling it against rifling 43 of a conical casing 32 and deliver it through outlets 47, 48. The outlet 47 can strain the juice separately through perforated vanes 51 of a valve 49, Fig. 5, the valve 49 being' turned to bring either the perforated vanes or the solid blocking vanes into position. The outlet 48 delivers the pulp with or without the juice. A domed cover 39 with a glass inspection hole is provided.
