Abstract

650,226. Boxes. LAIRD & SON, Ltd., J., KING. J. A., and WILLS, S. Sept. 29, 1948, No. 25398. [Class 18] Inter-engaging divisions or partition members for a box or the like are made from two layers of cardboard or other material, slots of considerable width being cut in each layer so that when the layers are placed together the slots in the respective layers are out of register to such an extent that a narrow slit is formed through both layers for inter-engaging the partitions. A longitudinal partition is formed from a single blank, Fig. 1 comprising two panels 1, 2 and a flap 3 separated by scoring lines 4, 5. Slots 6, 7 and portions 9 are punched out from the blank, the slots 6 having triangular openings 8 and the slots 7 joining the portions 9 by slits 10 forming flaps 11. The panels 1, 2 are folded together to form the partition and the flap 3 glued over, the slots 6, 7 overlapping to form narrow slits. A lateral partition is formed from a blank, Fig. 3, in which elongated offset slots 19, 20 are punched out from panels 14, 15 and triangular and diamond slots 23, 22 are provided in alignment with a part 21 separating the slots 19, 20. The blank is folded to form narrow slits as before and the partition may then be interengaged by means of the narrow slits, the parts 11 and 22, 23 forming a locking device, Figs. 2, 4 and 5 (not shown). If desired the flaps 3 and 16 for glueing the layers may be dispensed with.
