Abstract

649,361. Cycle pedals. CRANFORD MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, M. L. June 12, 1948, No. 15889. [Class 136 (ii) ] In a cycle pedal in which a cross piece supporting the outer race ring of a pedal spindle bearing in a recess therein is formed integrally with a tread or tread support members 6 running longitudinally of the pedal and fixed to a cross piece on the inner side of the pedal which supports the outer race ring of a spindle bearing, recesses are formed in dish-shaped housings 5a, 5 in the cross pieces 1, 3 in which outer race rings 2, 4 are housed and a distance sleeve 10 is placed between the race rings, the pedal spindle 11 passing through the sleeve. Rubber treads 7 are fixed to the inside faces of the members 6 by clamping plates 8 and screws 9. One end of the sleeve 10 is non-circular to engage a non-circular hole in the housing 5a. The spindle 11 is formed of mild steel and inner race rings 13, 14 of hardened steel are fitted thereon. A cap 15 protects the end of the spindle 11. The junctions of the cross piece 3 and longitudinal tread members 6 form projections expanding beyond the cap 15.
