Abstract
596,137. Baal-bearings. HARDEN TOOL & GAUGE CO., Ltd., JORDAN, C. R., and HUMPAGE, D. J. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 19938. [Class 12 (i)] In a cycle wheel hub comprising a shell 2 having recessed end faces accommodating ball bearings 3 and affording locating shoulders 4 for the outer ball races and locating shoulders 5 formed in the spindle for the inner ball races, the retaining nuts 8 on the spindle 1 have peripherally extending bearing faces which directly abut both races 4, 5 of the bearings and also overhang a portion of the hub shell and faces immediately surrounding the bearing housings. The nuts 8 are screwed into the threaded ends 9 of the spindle. Dirt and moisture are excluded from the bearings by a flange 10 on the shell 2 which overhangs the nut 8 and has. formed on it an annular groove 11. Deep spoke flanges 12 are formed integral with the shell. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the hub shell is extended at one end and externally threaded to take a screwed-on chain sprocket 13 and nut ring 14.
