Abstract

648,508. Endless chain conveyers. KING, Ltd., G. W., and BURROWS, A. T. C. Oct. 5, 1948, No. 25990. [Class 78 (i)] The invention relates to the type of conveyer comprising an endless driving chain fitted with rollers arranged in pairs disposed alternately in planes at right angles to each other and running on surfaces provided by a track of rectangular or box-like section adapted substantially to enclose the chain, and loadsupporting bars associated with the chain and adapted to project through a slot or passageway in one wall of the track. According to the invention the chain is made up of a plurality of links 10 each of which comprises a metal strip or blank bent to a U or substantially U-shape, the links being interconnected by means of pins 11 which serve also as spindles for the rollers 12. As shown in Fig. 2 the rollers run in a track 14 of square section. The closed end of each link 10 is slotted at 17 (see also Fig. 1), to receive a load bar 16 mounted on the corresponding pin 11 and projecting through a slot 15 in the lower wall of the track 14, the load bars 16 being mounted only on those of the pins 11 which are horizontal. The bars 16 are connected in pairs by vertical pivots and are provided with means for receiving loads W. According to the Provisional Specification the holes in the open ends of the. links 10 may be of keyhole formation, the limb of each keyhole being too narrow to receive the diameter of. a pin 11 but wide enough to receive portions of the pin provided with flats. This arrangement is such that the pins may be inserted or removed when two adjacent links are mutually perpendicular but not when the chain is straightened out.
