648,016. Linkworkfor converting rotary into reciprocating motion. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO:, Ltd. Oct. 24, 1947, No. 28502. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1946. [Class 80(iii)] [Also in Groups XVI and XXXIV] Push-rods 41, 42, Fig. 3, utilized for reciprocating ink vibrating rollers of a printing press (see Group XVI), are reciprocated by means of a rotating shaft 46, Fig. 6. The shaft 46 has an eccentric 52 surrounded by a block 53 slidable in a slot 54 in one arm of a rocker member 50 pivoted on a stationary shaft 51, extending portions of the block 53 preventing lateral movement thereof, whereby the member 50 is oscillated. The member 50 has two parts 50α, 50b each connected to a push-rod. The part 50a is bifurcated at 60 and pivoted in the fork is a U-member 63 in which the rod 41 rests, the member 63 being between two flanges 68 on the rods..The vertical component of the oscillation of the member 50 is taken up by vertical sliding of the U- member 63 with respect to the rod 41, which is thus reciprocated horizontally. The part 50b is similarly coupled to the rod 42. In order to permit adjustment of the amplitude of the stroke of the rods from zero to about one inch, the eccentric 52 is formed in two parts capable of relative angular adjustment. An inner eccentric 78 is fitted on the shaft 46 and is surrounded by an eccentric sleeve 79 having a flange 79a. A flange 78a is keyed to the eccentric 78 and the flanges 78a, 79a have peripheral teeth 83, 82. A collar 84 bridges the teeth 83, 82 to prevent relative rotation of the flanges and is held in position by a spring-pressed detent 85. To adjust the eccentric throw., a cover 89 of the housing 30 containing the mechanism is removed, and the collar is forced axially inwards to release the teeth 83, and rotated by a wrench engaging holes 86 in the collar, so as to rotate the sleeve 79, the amount of movement being determined by a pointer 88 and co-operating indicia on the collar.
