Abstract

1,205,587. Inking apparatus. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. 26 Feb., 1968 [4 March, 1967], No. 10356/67. Heading B6C. In an inking mechanism for a rotary web printing machine, having axially reciprocable inking rollers, means are provided for varying the amplitude of the reciprocation. Inward movement of the assembly of end-cap 14, bearing 13 and rotatable collar 12, by turning of cap 14 in screw-threaded mount 16, turns sleeve 21 on its supporting cross-pin 17, by way of linkage 36, so that as shaft 6 rotates sleeve 21 is wobble-rotated with it, with its axis angularly displaced relative to that of shaft 6 by an amount which increases as cap 14 is moved in. Non-rotating swash plate 23 is thereby given a corresponding oscillating movement which is transmitted to inking roller shaft 31 as an axial reciprocation. Adjustment of the magnitude of the reciprocation of roller 31 may be carried out while roller 31 is rotating and being reciprocated. Swash plate 23 may have four arms 26 each linked through a universal joint 27 to a bearing 43 on an inking roller shaft, and axially fixed inking rollers may be placed between the oscillating ones to make up roller trains.
