Abstract
647,738. Handcuffs. SOC. A R. L. RIVOLIER PERE ET FILS. Nov. 18, 1947, No. 30591. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Class 44] In a manacle comprising two arms a, g, pivoted to each other at one end, the free ends being held together by a sliding catch f, engaging ratchet teeth g<1> which are formed on arm g and are coaxial with its pivot, the catch f is of arcuate shape and slides in a similarly shaped slot which is eccentric to the pivot of the two arms a, g. The catch f is spring-loaded by a plunger h<1> and is housed in a distance-piece b rigid with the side plates constituting arm a. The catch f may be locked in the engaged position by means of an eccentric projection c<1> on a cylinder lock c engaging a notch f<1> in the catch. When the cylinder c, which is housed in a cylindrical boss b<1> on distance-piece b, has been rotated by its key d to move the projection c<1> into its lower position, movement of the cylinder being limited by a stop screw or pin e, the catch may be moved back against the action of its spring h<1> to unlatch the arm g. This is performed by rotation of a key J whose nose engages another notch f<3> in the catch f. The stationary pivot i for the key J is secured to one of the side plates constituting arm a.
