Abstract

647,183. Seats. DEURS, H. C. E. VAN. Aug. 13, 1948, No. 21409. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 30, 1948.]. [Class 52 (ii)] In a vertically adjustable seat, stool, &c. in which a spindle provided with a nut is carried by a rigid column the seat is rendered resilient by the means necessary for clamping the nut to the spindle being interposed between a helical spring and the nut or forms part of the nut. As shown the stool having a screwed spindle 3 is provided with a nut 6 which when the stool is unloaded is pressed upwardly by the helical spring 5 so that it is frictionally held against rotation by the cap 4 of the column 1 and consequently permits adjustment of the stool on rotation of the spindle 3. A conical slit ring 7 is provided in the spindle 3 as shown which is, when the stool is loaded, forced into a conical recess in the nut 6 and so indirectly clamps the nut 6 to the spindle while permitting vertical resilience to the stool by means of the spring 5. In another form the ring 7 is omitted and the lower part of the nut 6 is slit and tapered which part is forced into the upper end of the spring to clamp the nut to the spindle when the stool is loaded.
