1,149,178. Adjustable back-rests. STEELCASE Inc. 30 Aug., 1966 [21 Oct., 1965], No. 38722/66. Heading A4J. The back-rest 10 of an office chair is slidably adjustable along a vertical resilient support bar 14, and is retained at a selected height by a ball detent, in which ball 32 is wedged, by resiliently urged inclined surface 34, in one of a series of recesses 20, in the bar 14. On manually raising slide 30, the ball 32 falls out of recess 20 and the rest 10 can be freely moved to a new selected position. The range of vertical adjustment of the seat 10 is limited by the engagement of screw 22 in slot 24.
