646,778. Dryshavers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Aug. 8, 1946, No. 23543. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1942. [Class 131] In a dry shaver the apertures in the cutting plate are grouped in different parts of the plate according to size and the cutting member is adjustable to cooperate with all or a group of the apertures. As shown the cutting member 6 has cutting edges 7 which reciprocate behind the cutting plate 1 in cooperation with the apertures 2, and on reversal of the cutting member, cutting edges 8 co-operate with apertures 3. The apertures may be tapered slots as shown at 29 and auxiliary apertures 20 may be provided to increase the cutting efficiency. The aperture in the group which is not being used at any particular time may be blocked by covering them with a thin, removable cap or the cutting member may be provided with an uninterrupted blocking surface. The cutting member may be provided with one set of cutting edges which co-operate with all of the apertures in the cutting plate at the same time. A modification is described in which a cutting member rotates behind a circular cutting plate.
