Abstract
646,263. Electromagnetic switches. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Aug. 23, 1948, No. 22201. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1947. [Class 38(v)] In an electromagnetic relay having a core 14 which moves downwards against a biassing spring 28 when an electromagnet 12 is energized till contacts 19, 20 engage fixed contacts 21,.22 after which the core continues to move a short distance straining a further spring 27, an insulating shield 17 is mounted on the upper part of the contact-carrying member 18 to shield the springs 27, 28 from any heat generated at the contacts or in the electromagnet. The relay is easily dismantled by unscrewing two nuts 44 when the cover 43 can be removed and the assembly of core 14, contact member 18 springs 27, 28 removed. Further dismantling is effected by removing a cotter pin 29. In a modification. Fig. 4 (not shown), the convex spring 27 is replaced by a concave spring the ends of which engage projections on the shield 2 shaped so that the effective length of the spring lessens as it bends thereby exerting a greater biassing force which in part balances the greater attractive force exerted by the electromagnet.
