Abstract
645,465. Induction heating. SEULEN, G. W. June 16, 1948, No. 16156. [Class 39 (iii)] A single turn work coil Ca of elliptical shape and split at D where connection is made to a source of H.F. current, embraces a workpiece A and is disposed at an angle to the axis of the workpiece as shown, the workpiece being rotated to give uniform heating. In this manner various lengths of workpiece may be accommodated with a single work coil by varying the angular relationship as indicated at G and various diameters of workpiece may be accommodated by a partial rotation of the elliptical work coil to a position where the air gap between the work coil and workpiece is that required for the best coupling combined with satisfactory clearance. The angular relationship may be varied at selected points along the length of the workpiece as indicated at H in Fig. 2 in order to provide different degrees of heating as required by the nature and shape of the workpiece. The work coil may be covered with an iron yoke M of solid, compressed, powder, or laminated form in order to improve efficiency in which case a cross-section of the conductor C<SP>3</SP> employed to form the heating coil assumes the preferred form shown in Fig. 4.
