[A Specificationwas laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 14, 1949.] [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group VII] In a sewing-machine oil is supplied to the thread-carrier raceway 9 of a rotary loop-taker 7 by a lubricating system comprising ducts 61, 62 leading from the raceway to a bore 48 in the loop-taker shaft 14,.conduit means connected to the bore at the end of the shaft remote from the loop-taker, a pump to supply lubricant to the conduit means, a byepass 53, 56 connected to the conduit means, and means for regulating the flow through the byepass. Oil from a reservoir 29, connected to a main reservoir 32, is carried by the loop-taker gearing 25, 26 to a pocket 38 in the loop-taker shaft bearing 19. Oil is pumped from the pocket by a helical groove 40 in the shaft to a compression chamber 44. The chamber leads to the conduit means which comprise ducts 49, 50, a distribution chamber 52, and a spigot 46 communicating with the bore. The byepass leads from the distribution chamber and returns oil to the reservoir and the flow in the byepass is regulated by a screw 54 having a reduced end 55. When the screw is in the position shown in Fig. 1, most of the oil is returned to the reservoir, but when the screw is lowered its reduced 'end blocks the byepass and all the oil passes to the bore which contains a filter-wick 59.
