[Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group VII] The 'thread-carrier raceway 13 of a rotary loop-taker 11 is supplied with lubricant by a wick-filled channel 17 in the loop-taker body communicating with a wick-filled bore 21 in the loop-taker shaft 19 which ends in the upper part of a chamber 27 containing lubricant at the bottom and containing means to convey lubricant to the bore of the shaft 21 when the machine is running. In the form shown, the shaft 21 is driven by gears 31, 32 from the feed shaft 34, and the gear 32 dips into the oil, which is carried by the gears up to a collecting scoop 50 whence it flows through ducts 58, 59 in a fixed member 54 formed with a spigot entering the bore 21 of the shaft 19. The chamber 27 is supplied with oil by way of a passage 44, the level of the oil being limited by a lateral overflow passage (not shown). The lower part of the spigot of the member 54 is cut away so that excess oil can drain away through the gap 62, the ducts 58, 59 being thus emptied when the machine is idle. The boss of the gear 32 overlaps a reduced end of the bearing bush of the shaft 34 to prevent the escape of oil through the bearing, and the bearing bush of the shaft 19 is provided with an oil drainage duct 48.
