Abstract
Food supplements, such as vitamins or minerals, are added to food in the form of pellets of a hard waxy fat carrier obtained by the hydrogenation of an edible oil, such as soya bean oil. The pellets may be coloured with material which changes on ageing, thus indicating the age of a particular batch. Examples are given of pellets containing, in addition to inorganic components, provitamin A (carotene) and vitamins D and G. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, capsules may be used instead of pellets, and gelatine or cereal grains may act as the carrier instead of fat. Colour and shape may be relied on to identify the nature and amount of the food supplement. Charts provided for comparison may be mounted on the packages in which the pellets are sold.
