Abstract
A ceramic insulator having a dielectric constant of at least 95 and a dielectric loss factor not exceeding 20 X 10-4 at 200 metres is made by sintering titanium dioxide containing not more than 1 per cent basic impurities and sufficient of another oxide or oxides which will form salts with basic oxides to neutralize the impurities. Oxides of beryllium, aluminium, silicon and zirconium are suitable additions. Subsequent to sintering, rapid cooling is effected from a temperature slightly below the temperature of dissociation of the titanium dioxide to at least 700 DEG C.
