644,090. Control levers for cycles. BREVETS SOUHART SOC. ANON. Dec. 20, 1947. Nos. 33718 and 33719. Convention dates, Sept. 6, 1943 and Oct. 19, 1943. [Class 136 (i)] In a cycle control device, more particularly for change speed gears, having a control lever carried by handle-bars 2 the lever 14 is pivotally mounted at the free end 1 of one of the handle-bars so that it may be controlled by a cyclist without removing his hand from the handle-bar. The lever 14 is mounted on a support 3 fixed to the handle-bars by means of an expansible locking wedge 4. A nut 5 mounted on a screw 6 controls the expansion. A pulley 11 is mounted in the support 3 and carries a control cable 12 which passes through a channel 15 in the support 3. A channel 17 is also provided. Notches may be used instead of channels. Alternatively, the pulley may be mounted on a spindle fitted directly in the handle-bar and guided laterally by guide members carried by the handle-bar or by the handle-bar itself. As shown in Fig. 9, the lever comprises a lever 26 which can be angularly coupled with the pulley 22 by any one of a number of peripheral recesses 30 corresponding to the gear ratio which the cyclist wishes to obtain.
