912,116. Walk-type tractors. KOCH, H., and KOCH, T., [trading as HAKO H. KOCH & SOHN]. Jan. 14, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 1432/59. Classes 79(1), 79(2) and 79(5). A walk-type tractor suitable for use as a rotary hoe is characterized in that the drive from the motor to the wheels or cutter spindle is through a belt-driven infinitely variable expanding pulley change speed gear and includes a fixed ratio reducing gear driving the wheels or cutter, the tractor wheels being interchangeable with the rotary hoe. The tractor comprises an engine 3, fuel tank, 5 and exhaust silencer 6. The drive from the motor shaft 4 is taken to a shaft 7 by a continuously variable ratio belt-pulley drive comprising a pair of expansible pulleys 9, 9<SP>1</SP> and 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3. The drive from shaft 7 to the working spindle 12, to which may be attached a rotary hoe or a wheel, comprises a pinion 110, Fig. 9, meshing with gear teeth on the, shaft 7 and integral with a pinion 110<SP>1</SP> meshing with a pinion 112 integral with a sprocket 113 connected by a chain 114 to a sprocket 115 attached to a spindle 116. A spindle 117 is fitted within spindle 116 and has attachment members by means of which a rotary hoe or wheel may be mounted. The expansible pulley members 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are urged away from one another by --a spring 18 and towards one another by a lever 22 controlled through a Bowden cable by a rotary member 24 upon the control and guide handle 8. The rotary member 24 is connected by a polygonal rod 25 to a screw member 31 the threads of which engage teeth upon a member 27 pivoted to the handle at 28. For quick separation of the pulley members 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, the screw member 27 may be disengaged from the screw 31 by means of a lever 30. The handle 8 is mounted for vertical and horizontal adjustment upon a device 127, 122, Fig. 10, attached to the tractor frame. Specification 862,639 is referred to.
