Abstract

820,409. Walk-type tractors; power take-off mechanisms. ALLEN & SONS (OXFORD) Ltd., J. Oct. 30, 1957 [Aug. 15, 1956], No. 24924/56. Classes 79(1) and 79(2) A power driven twowheeled tractor adapted for the removable attachment of implements has independent oscillatory and rotary power take off means for driving the implements independently of the motion of the vehicle. A vehicle driven by a petrol motor 13, Fig. 1, comprises a box like chassis 11 mounted on wheels 12 and having handlebars 15 to which throttle and clutch control levers 17, 18 are at tached. The oscillatory power take-off means comprises a saddle 49 which may be used to operate a mower 52 plugged to the chassis 11 by support bars 53 inserted into slots 54 in the front plate and locked by means of screws 56. Oscillatory motion is transmitted to an operating arm 51 attached to the reciprocable cutter bar of the mower and inserted through square shaped opening 50 in the saddle 49. The rotary power take-off means comprises a pulley 60, Fig. 4 which may be used with a belt 61 for driving a circular saw 63. The saw bench 64 comprises a framework 65 having bars 66 which are plugged into the slots 54 in the vehicle. The transmission system for oscillatory and rotary driving means and for the vehicle wheels 12 comprise a motor shaft 30, Fig. 3, carrying a pinion 31 in constant engagement with a gear wheel 32 which is engaged between friction discs 36, 37 on a shaft 33. The discs 36, 37 are loaded by a spring 38 to provide a spring slip clutch which prevents damage to the machine in the event of the mower or circular saw meeting heavy resistance. A worm 40 in the shaft 33 engages a worm wheel 41 for driving the road wheels through a clutch (not shown), which automatically releases on overload. A skew gear wheel 42 on the end of the shaft 33 engages a gear wheel 43 on a power take off shaft 44 carrying the pulley 60. A pin 45 on the gear wheel 42 engages a slide 46 moving vertically in a slot 50 of a rocker arm 47 attached to a shaft 48 carrying the oscillating saddle 49. Specification 722,355 [Group XXIV] is referred to.
